India is a democratic country. The media is one of the four pillars of a strong democracy. Along with the three pillars of democracy namely legislative, judiciary and executive, the media stands as the fourth pillar to protect democracy. While November 16 is celebrated as National Press Day as a symbol of free media in the country, the next day, November 17, is observed as National Press Day to honor journalists. The role of the media in giving voice to the voiceless is commendable. In this day and age, we are all familiar with the advancement of social media and the news and information received through mobile phones. Free journalism is also the foundation of a strong democracy. While the media serves as the pillar of a democratic nation, journalists working in various media houses act as a mirror reflecting various aspects of the society through their reports and stories. The role of the media in spreading unity, peace and brotherhood among the citizens is immense. The media acts as a bridge between the Government and the citizens. Best wishes to all the media workers….
