The famous writer Omchery N.N. Pillai has passed away at the age of 101. He was admitted to St. Stephen’s Hospital in Delhi a few days ago due to old-age health issues. Born on February 1, 1924, Omchery was the youngest son of P. Narayana Pillai and Pappikuttiyamma.

Omchery was a renowned writer who brought fame to his village, Moothedathukavu, through his powerful writing. He came from a family of brilliant minds and was married to Dr. Leela Omchery, a well-known singer. We fondly called him “Kochappuppan.”

Omchery received many awards for his literary contributions, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award twice and the Sahitya Akademi Award for his memoir “Aakasmikam.” He was also the first recipient of the Kerala Prabha Award. His passing is a huge loss for the literary world. May his soul rest in peace.
